There are a couple of things about the Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Ox that catch my attention: the gold foil is the first and most obvious, though easily the least worthy of discussion beyond its crinkly texture. The purple and gold foot band is the next on my list; the purple feels new for a Liga Privada release, and the gold used differs just enough from the foil to be noticeable. Finally, the script on the primary band also feels just a bit different from other Liga Privada releases that it makes me wonder about the font selection. After spending a bit processing those things, I assess how to remove the trio. They would seemingly slide off neatly as one unit on the first cigar, though I need the primary band left on for photos. Maya Selva Launching Cumpay Maduro Robusto Launches in France, Making U.S. Debut at TPE 2021
At the 2021 Tobacco Plus Expo in mid-May, Maya Selva will be unveiling the second vitola in its Cumpay Maduro line, a 4 3/4 x 50 robusto, to the U.S. market.
It will join the Volcán, a 5 x 60 gordo, and like its bigger sibling, features an all-Nicaraguan blend, with the wrapper coming from Jalapa, the binder from Estelí, and the filler from throughout the country, though the company does not disclose where, other than that Ometepe was also mentioned as a region from which the tobacco is sourced. The company says that the blend is on the medium to fuller-bodied end of the spectrum.

A very attractive milk chocolate brown wrapper covers the VegaFina Year of the Ox, which also happens to be fairly smooth to the touch and features a noticeable amount of oil. There are a few overtly obvious veins present and the cigar is firm when squeezed. Aroma from the wrapper is a combination of strong barnyard, almonds, earth, leather, hay and raisins while the cold draw brings flavors of peanut shells, earth, leather, creamy oak, pepper and massive raisin sweetness.
Starting out, the first third of the VegaFina presents itself as smooth but balanced, with a profile that is easily dominated by flavors of creamy oak and cocoa nibs, followed by lesser notes of leather, gritty earth, sourdough bread, malt and touch of floral. There is just a touch of spice on my tongue, but it is gone almost as soon as I notice it, and while there is not quite as much of either black pepper or raisin sweetness on the retrohale a
