HOLLIFIELD: Warning: This column may shock sensitive readers

AUTHOR’S NOTE: A version of this column was first published in the 1990s, but I believe its mediocrity has stood the test of time. Enjoy! I’ve been shocked a couple of times recently. I’m referring to the electrical form of shock, not the kind of shock one experiences when Uncle Ernie shows up at the family reunion without pants. I accidentally hit a hot wire during an ill-advised home-improvement project. Ouch. Not long after, I plugged in an extension cord the dog had chewed nearly in half last December when the Christmas tree was unplugged. Ouch. Both of those jolts made the elastic in my underwear sizzle.

AVG AntiVirus for Mac Review

Some recommended fixes require payment It’s taken a while to get the word out, but almost all Mac users now understand that their devices are not immune to virus attack. Antivirus protection is important. However, that doesn’t mean everyone wants to pay for such protection. AVG AntiVirus for Mac is one of several totally free antivirus solutions designed to protect your Macs. This bare-bones software doesn t do much beyond taking care of basic antivirus tasks, but its protection against malicious and fraudulent URLs has improved since our last review. Since Avast s acquisition of AVG a couple years ago, this product and Avast Security (for Mac) are now, if not siblings, at least cousins. On the PC side, the two free antivirus products are extremely similar under the hood, and company contacts assure me that the same is true of the Mac products. Note, though, that Avast offers Mac users a bit more than AVG does. In addition to basic antivirus protection, it includes a network

Success of Uncle Ernie s Bayfront Bar & Grill in Panama City s St Andrews

PANAMA CITY Since reopening in October on the second anniversary of Hurricane Michael, Uncle Ernie s Bayfront Bar & Grill has remained a force to be reckoned with in the Historic St. Andrews community. Putting this back together was a monumental task, admitted Sean Lyon, who owns the restaurant with his cousin, Erin Pigneri. Being by the water, the restaurant at 1151 Bayview Ave. had suffered a ton of damage, Lyon said. But on the first weekend in February, when Mardi Gras food and drink specials with a Cajun flair reigned, Uncle Ernie s saw numbers closer to those pre-hurricane.  All of fans familiar coastal favorites, from Grouper Imperial to Key Lime Pie, that made Uncle Ernie s a destination for locals and tourists are still on the menu year-round served with a view of St. Andrew Bay.

Uncle Ernie s Pub n Grub, The Max Canada leave downtown Athens for good | Eat-drink

The visual contrast between the scruffy, long-established bar and the refurbished sandwich shop next door on W. Washington Street was hard to ignore. Indicative of a trend in downtown Athens, both businesses are gone now, replaced with something shiny and new. Uncle Ernie’s Pub n’ Grub and The Max Canada — the two adjoining businesses at 235 and 243 W. Washington Street — officially closed their doors early this January. Both businesses were managed by father-son duo, Ernie and Daniel Battinelli. The space will be occupied by a new tapas and cocktail concept called Paloma Park, slated to open this spring. According to Daniel Battinelli, Jason Dunn is taking over. Dunn owns and manages Infusia Inc., one of the many corporations involved in downtown development projects, and has held management roles at places like Sandbar and Buddha Bar.
