Once considered an “Urban Naxal”, actor Mithun Chakraborty’s political life has swayed from the ultra-left to centre-left, centrist, and now the right-wing.
Mithun was the star attraction at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Brigade Parade Ground rally in Kolkata on Sunday. Senior BJP leaders such as Kailash Vijayvargiya, in charge of the poll-bound state, believe Mithun’s association with the BJP would shore up the party’s electoral prospects in Bengal.

The well-known folk band Surojit O Bondhura gave a touching performance. The violin brothers band compelled the audience to dance on their tunes. Mamata Shankar’s ballet dance performance was the main attraction of the programme.
Besides the performances of the artists, 70 stalls of handicrafts, paintings, embroidery, and jute crafts etc. also attracted the people.

Bengali star Yash Dasgupta joined BJP, a host of celebrities from the Bengali film industry, including actors Paoli Dam, Rituparna Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee, met Union I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar at an event in Kolkata on Monday. At the event, Javadekar also announced a national-level film award after legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
Other personalities who attended the event, titled Interaction of film fraternity with Shri Prakash Javadekar a first of its kind programme organised by the National Film Development Corporation, were Mamata Shankar, Churni Ganguly, filmmakers Gautam Ghosh, Anik Dutta, producers Mahendra Soni and Nispal Singh and renowned classical singer Ustad Rashid Khan.
