Architect Humberto Saldaña is known for big public projects such as UTSA s downtown campus, libraries and government buildings. He s also won accolades for high-profile restoration projects such as the San Antonio City Hall façade and the 27 buildings in historic La Villita. Turns out the architect has turned his hand to smaller projects over the years, including bringing a new life to this charming four-bedroom, three-bath house now for sale in the Monte Vista Historic District. Monte Vista s older homes tend toward dark interiors thanks to east- and west-facing windows that took advantage of cooling cross breezes before the miracle of modern air conditioning. But Saldaña brought lots of light into this 1926 Tudor Revival-style house with the addition of an atrium that spans from front to back.

A century-old home in Monte Vista, with stained glass and elegant woodwork, recently hit the market.
Built in 1907, the distinctive property at 109 East Woodlawn Ave. was once divided into multiple units. Now a single-family home, it is for sale for $875,000. Barbara Faulkner of Keller Williams Heritage has the listing.
Palm trees line the median on East Woodlawn, one of the streets within the Monte Vista Historic District. A squat concrete strip mall sits on one side of No. 109. The house s first-floor porch wraps around the other.
