“Only the Good Die Young” is the title of a popular Billy Joel song from 44 years ago but it’s certainly been used way too many times before and since when talking about someone whose life has ended way too soon. My question is, “What is too soon?”
From 1860 to now life expectancy in the U.S. has doubled from 39.4 to 78.9 years. While the pace has slowed the Social Security Administration and Census Bureau both forecast that number to continue to grow and by 2050 life expectancy will be almost 81 for males and about 85 for females…I won’t make any editorial comments about why women outlive us men.

Shavar Reynolds Jr. has been a four-year guard on the Seton Hall men’s basketball team since he earned a spot on the roster as a walk-on his freshman year. He then earned a scholarship before his sophomore year for the 2018-19 season.
The formative years of his college basketball career were spent playing in a reserve role off the bench for the Pirates. He built a reputation for himself as a hard-working, relentless defensive presence in the backcourt and a player capable of providing the team with a last-second, game-winning basket if needed. As a junior, Reynolds continued to serve as the team’s sixth man and defensive stopper and averaged 4.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 30 games.

MONROE – The township welcomed five new police officers, bringing the Monroe Township Police Department’s complement to 66.
The new officers graduated from the Cape May Police Academy on July 2, 2020. Police Chief Michael Biennas and Mayor Stephen Dalina introduced the officers on Feb. 24.
Biennas said “the new class of recruits joins a department of highly dedicated law enforcement professionals.”
“We wish them all well in their new roles with the department,” he said.
Richard A. Diaz is a 2012 graduate of Monroe Township High School. He earned his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Brookdale Community College in May 2015. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from New Jersey City University in May 2019.
