In November crews completed another very productive paving season. The Board of Commissioners have made resurfacing roadways a top priority and it is evident with the tens of miles paved
annually. In 2020, subcontractor crews resurfaced nearly 30 roads totaling over 12 miles. Roads resurfaced included: Whispering Waters Dr., Whispering Court, Whispering Pebbles Trail, Quiet Water Court, Mill Creek Dr., Mill Pond Court, Hobson Court, Daisy Lane, Hobson Drive, Deer Run, Doe Ridge Lane, Ginger Drive, Lance Road, McClain Mountain Road, Emerald Creek Drive, Emerald Creek Court, Green Valley Farm Road, Refuge Hill Road, Whitley Road South, Hensley Way, Hubbard Road, Afton Road, Poole Road, Lankford Drive, Thrasher Road, Dean Mill Road, Samaritan Way, and Caring Way. Additionally, Pickens Public Works tar and graveled roughly five miles of road across the county.
The dairy is owned and operated by Duane and Derek Ducat, and Dale Bogart.
“My dad bought the farm in 1984 and we were milking 70 cows back then,” explained Derek.
The family worked to expand the farm in small steps, working up to milking 120 cows in a stanchion barn. The family also grows crops and does custom work on the side. They wanted to grow and expand their dairy by making conservation-minded decisions along the way.
Through the custom work the family was completing on neighboring farms, they met Dale Bogart.
“In talking with Dale, who lived nearby, we both wanted to expand and do similar things on our farms,” added Derek.

Adam Armstrong
More than 100 parents and children lined up on a cold Saturday afternoon to receive toys from Armstrong. Harris Gardens was the first of seven low-income neighborhoods that Armstrong would deliver toys to families in need.
Armstrong arrived wearing a Christmas hat and a flannel shirt. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, Heather Morris, childhood friends Anthony Vaughn and Bobby McCauley, as well his pastor Mark Leatherman and Leatherman’s son, Eli. Armstrong and his team immediately got to work, handing out the gifts to the children and their parents.
