WOONSOCKET – The state’s COVID-19 vaccination effort saw a rapid acceleration last week when dozens of local and state-run vaccine sites opened their doors to seniors for the first time.
Last Thursday, Feb. 18, Woonsocket and North Smithfield held the first of eight scheduled vaccine clinics at the former Monsignor Gadoury School on Park Avenue. North Smithfield Fire and Rescue Chief David Chartier said everything went smoothly, with volunteers assisting efforts and participants adhering to their appointments.
“It’s been going excellent. Everybody’s been adhering to their appointments, it’s been a pretty steady flow since 9:45,” he said on Thursday afternoon.

Woonsocket, North Smithfield, Blackstone scheduling appointments for residents 75+
After what seemed like months of waiting, local municipalities are ready to begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to residents age 75 and older starting next week.
The city of Woonsocket and towns of Blackstone and North Smithfield have all announced vaccine clinics for residents beginning next week. The clinics are by appointment only and limited to residents age 75 and older at this time.

NORTH SMITHFIELD – After a busy weekend, North Smithfield town officials are preparing a mass vaccination effort for residents age 75 and older, which state officials have said will begin in earnest around Feb. 14.
WOONSOCKET – The city of Woonsocket has launched an online registry for residents interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, the registry launched around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Residents can enter their information to be added to a waiting list of potential recipients for when the city receives more COVID-19 vaccine supply. Anyone who wants to register can register. As the state expands the age bracket, they ll already be in the queue, Baldelli-Hunt said on Wednesday.
As of Wednesday morning, she said, 425 residents had already signed up.
The registry is available by going to www.woonsocketri.org and clicking on COVID-19 information. Residents will be asked to provide their name, age, address and other information. Baldelli-Hunt said the process is expected to take around four to five minutes.
