SBA Senate approves new members for next term

The Student Bar Association Senate swore in the new senate for the next term and passed more than 10 pieces of legislation in the body’s final meeting of the academic year Tuesday. The outgoing senate approved six pieces of legislation, recognizing appreciation for the outgoing executive and senate members, allocating funds toward GW Law student orientations and removing a communications committee from the body. After eight senators and members of the executive branch were sworn in, senators passed four pieces of legislation, like updating the SBA bylaws on senate meeting operations.

The Student Bar Association Senate unanimously ratified the group’s spring election results after a runoff election for the SBA’s top spot at a meeting Tuesday. Aneta Golaszewski, the SBA’s director of elections, announced that second-year law student Jordan Michel was elected SBA president and SBA Senate Secretary Yun-Da Tsai was elected executive vice president for the upcoming term. Senators also unanimously passed a resolution calling on GW Law officials to lobby against a D.C. Bar Association action requiring law students pursuing a master of laws degree to take 12 in-person credit hours despite the COVID-19 pandemic suspending most in-person classes.

News By Tiffany Garcia Feb 24, 2021 10:49 PM The Student Bar Association Senate passed a resolution to amend its constitution, allowing for the organization to vote in two new senators, during a meeting Tuesday. SBA Sens. Andrew Latham and Rachel Gale co-sponsored a resolution that would allow for the body to create two new senator positions, a 3L transfer senator and another non-J.D. division senator. The new positions would be filled during a special election this spring, according to the legislation.
