MOULTRIE, Ga. â The Kiwanis Club of Moultrie proudly recognized the 2021 STAR Student and Teacher of the year at a recent meeting.Â
STAR stands for the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program, which recognizes Georgiaâs highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in those studentsâ academic development. Â
Ashley Ma is this yearâs Colquitt County recipient with a 1380 SAT score, coming in at the top of her class, and she chose Thad Brown as her STAR Teacher. Brown taught Ma honors Georgia studies in the eighth grade, but heâs now the graduation specialist at the Colquitt County Achievement Center.Â

Jenny Lee who has been selected as one of the 2021 KSEA-KUSCO Graduate Scholarship recipients, provided by Korean-American Scientist and Engineering Association (KSEA) to graduate students of Korean heritage at an accredited institution in the US. The vision of the KSEA is to promote the application of science and technology for the general welfare of society, foster international cooperation especially between the U.S. and Korea, and help Korean-American Scientists and Engineers develop their full career potential. Jenny will be attending the US-KOREA Conference on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (UKC) 2021 for the scholarship award ceremony and presentation. The theme of UKC 2021 is “Pursuing Global Health and Sustainability” where it aims to accelerate the momentum on sustainability and to address health challenges such as current and the next pandemic. ROCK SPRINGS At the Student Government Association Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 29, Western Wyoming Community College announced two Outstanding Graduates, Mustang Awards, and scholarship recipients for 2020-2021. Western’s Honor Roll will also be published on the website after final grades are submitted.
Western’s Outstanding Graduate is selected by a committee that includes administrators, professionals, faculty, and staff. The nomination criteria and scoring rubric is based on campus involvement, leadership roles, positive impact on other students, and the nominee’s ability to positively represent Western in the future. This year, Western’s committee chose two students for this honor.

Pinecrest Academy junior, Breckin Barbee, has been accepted to the Lee University 2021 Summer Honors program. Only 180 applicants are accepted each year. For over 30 years, Lee University has sponsored a one-of-a-kind college experience for academically talented high school juniors and seniors. The two-week program prepares students to face the academic and social challenges of college life.
The 180 students selected from around the globe to participate in Summer Honors are chosen for academic achievements, leadership potential, service to the community, and extracurricular involvement. Barbee, who has been a student at Pinecrest Academy since first grade, is involved in a variety of sports and extracurriculars, including Varsity Football, Varsity Lacrosse, and Varsity Wrestling.
