Cupertino community briefs for the week of Jan. 29 [The Cupertino Courier, Calif.] Jan. 23 Taste of History Chef, lawyer and artist Jocelyn Jackson will the guest speaker at “Dreaming and Imagining,” an online event hosted by the Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College. Jackson founded Justus Kitchen in Oakland and is also a founding member of the People’s Kitchen Collective. The event, set for Feb. 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m., is the next in the Euphrat’s year-long series, “Reclaiming Our Humanity: A Taste of History.” It’s meant to “examine history through ancestral foods, stories, song and daily practices that strengthen the power of dreams.”

Around Town: Laguna Beach launches matching grant program for COVID-19 relief

The Laguna Beach City Council approved $1.4 million in assistance for businesses and the community, including a grant program called “LB Cares” to provide financial relief to local restaurants, bars and retail businesses. The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach is also assisting with application submission and the delivery of the grants, which will be paid out primarily by checks and gift cards. “Right now, we are in the darkest days of this pandemic and hundreds of local workers and residents have been laid off again,” Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen said in a statement. “They are stretched to the breaking point to pay their rent, keep their utilities turned on and feed their families. I urge our community to do what it always does in times of crisis which is to rise to the challenge and raise $300,000 to match the city funds. Please dig deep and give what you can to help the cause.”

Bank of America seeks applicants for Student Leaders program Thursday, January 14, 2021 3:14 PM Bank of America announced that its Bank of America Student Leaders program is accepting applications from Central Iowa high school students for the 2021 program through Jan. 29. The program provides workforce skills-building and civic engagement to current high school juniors and seniors through an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization. Additionally, selected students participate with their peers across the country in a summer weeklong Student Leaders Summit, which may be virtual.
