Political Science Student s Film Among Library Winners By Tim Meehan Julia Glorioso was one of 12 winners of the 2020-21 CSUSM University Library Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity. Glorioso was honored for her film The Routine. As a political science major, Cal State San Marcos sophomore Julia Glorioso is used to writing papers and participating in discussions about public policy and law. So when she decided to write and produce a film for her final project assignment for a world cinema course, she accessed the creative side of her brain, the part that produced many a drawing and painting while growing up in nearby Oceanside.

Last fall, The Alliance to Accelerate Excellence in Education, a Cal State San Marcos program that provides guaranteed admission to qualified students in certain local school districts, went virtual with its outreach because of COVID-19. For the CSUSM students involved in this effort, it meant that instead of traveling to high schools and middle schools throughout the region, the so-called “road shows” took place via Zoom presentation. And that was a very fortuitous development for one student in particular.

The Habits of Mind are essential skills that characterize successful people, such as curiosity, creativity, responsibility and persistence.
