In the spring of 2013, a massive fundraising drive entitled The Next 50 Campaign concluded with the raising of more than $65 million to help with a major modernization project at Laurentian University.
The project included a new Welcome Centre located at the heart of the campus, a new Indigenous Sharing and Learning Centre, a new Executive Learning Centre, a University Club and renovations to 60 classrooms and laboratories.

It also featured a massive revamp to the Alphonse Raymond building, a state-of-the-art water ecology research centre, the creation of more than 200 new scholarships and bursaries, the establishment of the Goodman School of Mines, and the creation of Canada’s first research Chair in open-pit mining.

Laurentian’s Students’ General Association has invited students to attend their December general meeting. This is the first time they have advertised a meeting in the 2020/2021 school year.
But the SGA has not published board meeting minutes since their January meeting in 2019.
This means that they have not shared the content of their meetings in a year and a half.
They did, however, live-stream an SGA meeting on their Facebook page in April of 2019.
Eric Chappell, President of the SGA, is in his second year as president, after a controversial election this past spring. He runs the SGA office with other executive members, Benjamin Mackenzie, Vice President of Student Life, and Malek Abou-Rabia, Vice President of Education.
