KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – About 30 Klamath Co. residents rallied in front of the Link River Wednesday. The locals, primarily involved in agriculture were peacefully protesting the amount of water they are getting to use for farming. According to Klamath Co. Commissioner, Donnie Boyd they’re getting about a 10th of the water they usually do. But Boyd said a judge ordered the county to take control of link lake. “They’re saying our livelihood is going down Link River. Please take control of the lake, do your job and follow the court order,” said Commissioner Boyd. Klamath Co. was the first in the state to declare a drought this year.

Downtown Medford business sees silver lining in RCC closing buildings - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

MEDFORD, Ore. – NBC5 News broke the story Monday that Rogue Community College is leasing or selling some of its buildings in Downtown Medford. The business community is reacting. Misoya Bistro is located in Vogel Plaza right in the heart of downtown Medford. The manager told NBC5 they’re sad to see fewer RCC students downtown, but there’s a silver lining. By RCC leaving some of its buildings their hope is that it’ll bring other new businesses to the downtown area. It carries risk, but the manager, Kathy Hall, is hopeful the change will be positive for downtown businesses.

Rogue Valley economist: Some people aren t returning to workforce, despite companies hiring

MEDFORD, Ore. – The Rogue Valley saw an increase in employment in March. According to the Oregon Employment Department, Jackson County saw an increase of over 1,700 jobs in March. In Josephine County, there was an increase of nearly 300 jobs. Both counties saw the biggest increase in the leisure and hospitality industry. Jackson county credits over 1,200 jobs to the industry, there are about 120 jobs in the industry in Josephine County. Despite a large number of employers hiring not everyone is going back to work. According to Worksource Oregon, there are 1,300 job openings in Medford. But many employers say it’s difficult filling those positions.
