âGet a steak into you, put some tomato sauce on it, maybe mushroom sauce.yum!â
That was Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormackâs response to activists calling for Rockhamptonâs iconic Beef Australia event to be canned.
Launched in Australiaâs Bicentennial year, 1988, Beef Australia, Rockhamptonâs flagship triennial event, has injected countless millions of dollars into the regionâs economy and advanced the nationâs beef industry throughout its 33 year history.
But People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has labelled Beef 2021 âa gruesome eventâ. PETA People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals spokeswoman Emily Rice has called for Beef Australia 2021 to be canned, labelling the festival âgruesomeâ. Picture: Supplied
Hosting a pink fundraiser supports cancer fight
I am writing to encourage the community to help make a difference in the lives of mums impacted by cancer this Motherâs Day.
One in six Queensland women will be diagnosed with a breast or gynaecological cancer in their lifetime - these women are our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.
Supporting is easy - you could turn Motherâs Day breakfast into a pink fundraiser or buy mum some pink ribbon accessories to don on the day, to help raise funds and awareness for womenâs cancers.
Every year, 4200 Queensland women are diagnosed with a breast or gynaecological cancer.

Coles and Teys Australia have signed a multi-year deal to have cattle bought by the supermarket chain processed at Teys’ Beenleigh abattoir.
The agreement will be announced at Beef Australia in Rockhampton on Wednesday.
Coles, which sources beef from more than 100 Queensland farms, is also beginning to do business with 15 more sunshine state suppliers.
Counted among them are second-generation graziers Rob and Anne Bridle from Tara.
The Bridle family has been breeding and producing cattle since 1961.
Mr Bridle said a regular supply contract with Coles would give him certainty to invest in the future of his business.
