White supremacist propaganda and racial harassment are continuing an upward trend in Michigan.
The Anti-Defamation League, a nonprofit watchdog group, reported a 240% increase in antisemitic incidents in the last five years. White supremacist groups are also stepping up efforts to recruit young men across Michigan.
“I’m very, very worried about how comfortable people are feeling with antisemitism in our country,” said Carolyn Normandin, regional director of ADL Michigan.

He applied only for the WOPS superintendent job, and was hired by the school board Feb. 1, although his first day in the district was officially Monday, May 3.
“It started with geography, I love this area and this region,” Bearden told The Sentinel. “West Ottawa is the only position I applied for. It encompasses all the things I think are important.
Burton city councilman resigns to take care of family

BURTON, MI Burton City Councilman Dennis O’Keefe is resigning from his position after a change in family health circumstances, he announced May 3.
“My wife has had some health issues for the last three years,” O’Keefe said. “They are very serious. . The family and I have discussed this my wife is home now. This is going to preclude me from my council duties. I think the best thing for me to do at this time is resign immediately.
“This is one of the hardest things I have ever done because I have never quit anything in my entire life. I sure wish I could see my term out to November but it is just impossible.”
Virtual manufacturing job fair seeks to fill skilled trades positions

FLINT, MI A job fair centered on filling open positions for entry-level, skilled trades and managerial positions at local manufacturers is scheduled to take place next month.
Job seekers can explore all the open positions at the virtual Manufacturing Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, May 10.
The economic rebound that’s underway has a number of local manufacturers in search of talent to fill various job openings, according to a press release from the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance.
The participating employers include Avancez Assembly LLC; Domico Med-Device; Fernco, Inc.; General Motors-Flint Assembly; HIROTEC America, Inc.; Miller Industries; Peckham, Inc.; Richfield Industries; Rolls Mechanical; and more, per the release.
