Burton city councilman resigns to take care of family

BURTON, MI Burton City Councilman Dennis O’Keefe is resigning from his position after a change in family health circumstances, he announced May 3.
“My wife has had some health issues for the last three years,” O’Keefe said. “They are very serious. . The family and I have discussed this my wife is home now. This is going to preclude me from my council duties. I think the best thing for me to do at this time is resign immediately.
“This is one of the hardest things I have ever done because I have never quit anything in my entire life. I sure wish I could see my term out to November but it is just impossible.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, he knew something wasn’t right.
O’Keefe began to feel so bad that he was shaking.
He was admitted the same evening into the intensive care unit at a local hospital.
Soon after, O’Keefe learned that he had contracted COVID-19 and double pneumonia, according to doctors at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township.
“He texted me the next morning and let me know that he got pneumonia and COVID,” fellow councilman Danny Wells said, who extended well wishes to O’Keefe on social media.
