Police report shows decline in crime last year in Madison Heights

MADISON HEIGHTS In a presentation to the Madison Heights City Council, the police chief provided a statistical analysis of crimes and responses for 2020.
Chief Corey Haines looked at two categories of crime Group A and Group B with the Group A crimes being more serious crimes generally punishable by a year or more in prison.
In that category, there were 360 cases of larceny and retail fraud, as well as 225 assault offenses, 114 cases of damage to property, 54 home invasions or burglaries, and 14 robberies.
The most frequent Group B crimes were operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs at 100 cases, obstructing police at 59 cases, and disorderly conduct at 49 cases.

“The man came to the door,” said Charlotte Grzesiak.
95-year old Charlotte Grzesiak said it was Tuesday afternoon when she saw a man who claimed to be a worker for a power company at her door. She saw that he was wearing a worker’s vest, so she let him in.
“And then he told me, ‘I have to shut off your electricity, because they’re working on the wires.’ I said, ‘Why won’t you come back when my son comes?’ ‘No, no, I have to do this right now,’” Grzesiak recalled.

PORT HURON, Mich. – Two 21-year-old men
have been charged after an argument over a vehicle led to the stabbing of a 37-year-old man in Port Huron, officials said.
Port Huron police said a 37-year-old Burtchville Township man arrived at the Lake Huron Medical Center at 8:11 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 24). The man had multiple stab wounds, police said.
He told police that he had gotten into an argument with Devin Michael Convery, 21, of Port Huron, in the 1600 block of Jay Street, according to authorities. They were arguing about a vehicle, the man said.
