Griswold A Jewett City man was killed Sunday afternoon when his car collided with a tree on Hopeville Road, also known as Route 201.
State Police said David Mack, 55, of 1531 Glasgo Road was driving his Mazda Miata north on Hopeville Road prior to the intersection with Lestor Road just before 1 p.m. when he crossed the double yellow line into the southbound lane and hit a guardrail. The car then swerved back into the northbound lane, went onto the shoulder and then struck a tree.
Mack was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a passenger in his car, Ben R. Mack, 17, of Lexington, Mass., suffered serious life threatening injuries and was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call state police at 860-848-6500.

GRISWOLD, Conn. One man is dead and another seriously injured in a crash in Griswold on Sunday afternoon.
Connecticut State Police say that a Mazda Miata driven by 55-year-old David Mack was headed north on Route 201 (Hopeville Road) in Griswold when it crashed about 1 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that prior to the intersection with Lestor Road, the car swerved towards the oncoming southbound lane of travel and crossed the double yellow line, eventually colliding with the metal guardrail. It then went back towards the northbound lane and eventually collided with a tree.
Griswold Fire Department personnel pronounced David Mack dead at the scene. The passenger in the car, 17-year-old Ben Robert Mack, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich.

CLEMMONS, N.C. JoAnn Gough and her husband Danny were out running some errands when they decided to swing by a car wash. It was quick and easy, and JoAnn Gough had been needing to get it done for a few days. The couple pulled up to the automated kiosk and selected their service.
“When I paid in the machine it did not give me the verbal prompts that it normally does, and I didn’t get a receipt,” she said.
