Massillon Board of Zoning Appeals meets Thursday

MASSILLON – The Board of Zoning Appeals meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Ivan A. Getz Building, 54 City Hall St. SE.
Call the city Building Department with any questions at 330-830-1724, ext. 393.
Also, a Massillon Civil Service Commission meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Getz Building.

MASSILLON – A contingent of city firefighters, officials, as well as friends and family, lined up Friday afternoon to welcome the city s new fire chief.
More than three dozen people were spread out inside Fire Station No. 1 to see Matt Heck be sworn in by Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry as the city s 12th chief.
Heck, 49, replaces Tom Burgasser who officially retired Friday, 31 years to the day he was hired as a Massillon Fire Department firefighter. He served as the agency leader for more than 14 years. Looking forward to working with everybody
The new chief praised his predecessor and thanked those who came out.

MASSILLON The incoming city fire chief said the profession has been in his blood for all of his 49 years.
Heck has been tapped to lead the Fire Department, replacing longtime leader Tom Burgasser who is retiring on April 9.
Heck s father, Ted, is a former Jackson Fire Department chief who retired in 2011. It s kind of in our blood, said Heck about the profession from Massillon s Fire Station 1. I ve been around (firefighting) all my life.
His first official day on the job as agency commander is slated April 10.
Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry announced Heck as the city s new chief Monday night at the tail end of a City Council special meeting.
