GREENFIELD The state recently announced additional financial support to small businesses in Western Massachusetts, including those in Franklin County.
The Greenfield-based Franklin County Community Development Corporation (CDC) was awarded $1.25 million of loan capital and grants for businesses in Western Massachusetts, according to a Franklin County CDC press release. CDC Executive Director John Waite said that about 1 million of those funds, awarded by the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation, will be loans, and about $200,000 will be for grants for small businesses.
“We’ve been lending to small businesses for almost 40 years,” Waite said. “This will allow us to do more flexible lending to people who previously did not have access to credit.”
SPRINGFIELD Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced $30 million in state funding across four grant programs administered by the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation (MGCC) to help small businesses recover, grow, and thrive.
Among these investments, the Administration announced the award of $4 million to 45 non-profit technical assistance providers to continue working with small businesses and entrepreneurs from traditionally underserved communities to grow and expand their businesses. In addition, the Administration announced $14.7 million in awards to 15 organizations under MGCC’s Community Development Financial Institution and Community Development Corporation’s (CDFI and CDC) Match Grant Program, which funds both lending and mini-grant programs for small businesses.

When Vivian and Juan Acevedo opened Lowell s Panela restaurant in 2019, it was in many ways the realization of a dream and the culmination of Vivian s culinary career.

That boost, Juan Acevedo recalled on Thursday, helped us when we needed help the most. Honestly, it was the perfect time, Acevedo said while hosting Baker administration officials at a press conference in the Lowell restaurant. Governor Charlie Baker said Thursday that Massachusetts reached a significant benchmark Wednesday in the battle against COVID-19, with the tally of hospitalized patients dipping below 500 statewide for the first time since October.
Baker, a Republican, made the comments during a briefing at Panela Restaurant in Lowell, to mark the latest round of pandemic small business relief grants.
âWeâre down to 485, plus or minus,â Baker said of the tally of hospitalized patients, which the state also released in its daily report Wednesday. âThereâs a lot of very positive stuff going on here. I think the thing weâre going to want to do is work with our colleagues in local government and with our colleagues in businessâ to highlight available
