MAGNOLIA Emiley Kennedy hasn t kept track of her no-hitters this year.
She thinks she s thrown three of them after accomplishing the feat to lead third-ranked Lake Creek to a five-inning, 16-0 victory over Magnolia West in a Class 5A Region III softball quarterfinal Friday at Magnolia High School.
Kennedy allowed four walks but was otherwise flawless in sending the Lions to the regional semifinals to face either No. 7 Santa Fe or No. 10 Crosby. She struck out seven and got some help from her defense, including a heads-up play from senior right fielder Bre Hagerty, who threw out Magnolia West s Lakyn Hacker at first base on what appeared to be a single.

The first time Wade Elkins made money selling barbecue was as a caterer at a golf tournament with a borrowed smoker. The next gig was big enough that he quit his job with a Houston-based imported foods distributor to make a living on smoked meats. Since then, he’s worked at two barbecue places from
Texas Monthly‘s 2019 best new barbecue joints list, and late last year, he and his wife Kathy Elkins opened Mimsy’s Craft Barbecue in the small East Texas town of Crockett.
BOE holds Special Meeting to Discuss Budget

The Wetzel County Board of Education on March 2, 2021 held a special session to discuss the budget via YouTube from the BOE office. Board member Amy Cooley led in the Pledge of Allegiance and Board President Brian Price delivered the invocation. All members were present except Linda Fonner who was participating by phone. Price called meeting to order and turned the floor over to Treasurer Jeff Lancaster.
Lancaster began by stating the county has a carryover of 8.3 million (largest ever) dollars from the fiscal 2020 budget to be re-budgeted for 2021 projects. He said that 78 percent of the counties’ revenue comes from gas and oil taxes.
Magnolia ISD hacked: Threatening messages sent out through district s communication system

MAGNOLIA, Texas (KTRK) Magnolia ISD is reassuring parents that students are safe after hackers breached the district s communication system and sent out threatening messages.
School officials said the messages specifically threatened the safety of students at Magnolia High School. The messages were sent on Sunday via the district s communication system on social media, text, email, and phone calls.
Cynthia Jackson has a daughter in high school at Magnolia ISD and told ABC13 her sister-in-law received one of the threats and sent it to her. We shouldn t be having all of this. I didn t go to [a] school where I had to have this problem, said Jackson. I don t want my child to go to school and have this problem where she can t go to school and feel like she was safe. This is supposed to be a safe environment for children to go to school and it s not.
