PRAYAGRAJ: Ram ‘naam masks have become the latest fad among devotees, kalpwasis, seers and saints camping at Magh Mela. On the mask, the name of Lord Ram is written in red as it is considered to be a colour of love. Most devotees, arriving at `Ram Naam Bank’ at Akshaybut Marg in Sector 1 to write the name of Ram in booklets or online through a dedicated Ram Naam app, can be seen wearing Ram ‘naam’ masks. In their bid to ensure strict enforcement of Covid guidelines the camp authorities at Ram Naam bank are also offering the Ram ‘naam’ mask to visitors.

While it is normal for saints and seers to wear the ‘khadau’ since they avoid wearing leather slippers or shoes for obvious reasons, this year, a large number of devotees, particularly the youth, can be seen wearing the ‘khadau’. Prem Srivastava, 23, a student from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh who is visiting the Magh Mela for the first time, flaunts his ‘khadau’ said, “I bought a pair of ‘khadau’ out of curiosity because so many people were wearing it. It has been four days since I am wearing it and I can already feel the difference. I feel more at peace with myself and physically too, I feel better and my shoulder pain has gone.”

Be it yogacharya Radhika Vaishnav camping at Balanandacharya Kapildev Naga camp at sector no. 3 in Ramanand marg or Acharya Satyam Tiwari camping at Haryana Charkhi Dadri ashram, the young yogacharya and katha vachak have turned to be the centre of attraction at the mela. Interestingly, a section of devotees who could not visit the Sangam city due to the Covid-19 pandemic, get to interact with the young gurus online and listen to the religious discourses on various social media platforms. Social media has also contributed to increasing the popularity of these young gurus.
