Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, the organization highlighted the country’s recent social justice achievements and historical fight for civil rights. Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of Rainbow PUSH, and Rev. Dr. Janette C. Wilson, national executive director of PUSH For Excellence, spoke at a Thursday news conference to introduce the theme of Monday’s celebration: “The Journey Continues As We Mold The Future.” Wilson cited Jackson, who has said Dr. King did not live long enough to witness the fruits of his labor, like the election of African Americans to local and federal offices.

Montgomery City Leaders Discuss Hazard Pay for All Employees

Alabama News Montgomery Ciyt Hall The Covid Cares Act has helped municipalities across the country give hazard pay to many city employees, but it doesn’t cover all employees. The Covid Cares Act covers additional pay for first responders, and Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed had city sanitation workers covered through the personnel board. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Councilman Glenn Pruitt asked to grant all city of employees hazard pay. “We just need to tell our employees you are going to get something we don’t know what, but when it is feasible and financially do able this is when you can expect this pay. that is what i want to get to is letting people know you will get something; we don’t know what or when but we need to be honest with our city employees because if it wasn’t for them the city would completely fall apart.” said Pruitt.

(WSFA) - A line of cars filled the parking lot of the Kershaw YMCA in Montgomery Saturday to take part in a drive through 101st surprise birthday for longtime Montgomery resident Frank J. Gregory Sr. “I’ve never been this surprised in all my life, that’s a fact,” Gregory said. “Nobody’s ever done anything like this. I’ve had so many birthdays but nothing of this nature. I’m so blessed and thankful.” Along with close family and friends, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed, State Representative Kirk Hatcher and Montgomery County Commission Chairmen Elton Dean were also in attendance.
