The Montgomery Police Department opened a death investigation around 2:20 a.m. after officers and fire medics found a body in the 600 block of Dexter Avenue, just in front of the Capitol.
A man was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the same block of Dexter Avenue as the Capitol.
Montgomery police Capt. Saba Coleman said officers responded to the 600 block of Dexter Avenue about 2:30 a.m. on a call of an injured person. The Capitol is the only building in that block.
The man, discovered in a car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coleman said the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Montgomery police opened a death investigation into the shooting, and no further information is available, Coleman said.
A tweet from the city s Twitter account called the shooting a tragedy and reminded residents of resources in case of a crisis.

On Friday, April 23, around 2:30 am, Montgomery police located a body in the 600 block of Dexter Avenue. This is located in front of the State Capitol.
