Second Chance Job Fair Pairs Ex-Criminal Offenders with Employers Updated: The inaugural Second Chance Job Fair was hosted by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office at True Divine Baptist Church Thursday morning. The job fair was designed to match people who have been through the criminal justice system with employers willing to give them an opportunity to earn a living. Nearly 30 companies were on hand to help ex-offenders better their lives, with some offering jobs on site. The City of Montgomery was one of the many employers. Dozens of people were at the job fair to meet potential employers and start the journey to a new life. R

Alabama News Updated: The Montgomery County District Attorney’s office is providing former inmates with a second chance at life through an upcoming job fair. The objective of the job fair is to help those in need of employment after being in jail or obtaining a criminal record. D.A. Bailey says he wants to help stop people from becoming repeat offenders and one way to help is by helping them get jobs. The Second Chance Job Fair will be held at the True Divine Baptist Church on Thursday, July 8th from 9 am-12 pm. Attendees are required to bring a resume and be ready to conduct on the spot interviews. The Clerks office will also have a table set up to give out information on how to get criminal records expunged. 

Volunteer firefighter dies answering last call before returning to Canada

LOWER MERION —   After two years in the States, where he found a passion for firefighting, Sean DeMuynck was headed back to his native Canada Monday with hopes of pursuing a career in firefighting. His bags were packed but before that he answered one last call as a volunteer with the Penn Wynne Overbrook Hills Fire Co. Sunday evening as the community celebrated Independence Day. DeMuynck, 35, never made it back to Canada.  While battling the attic and roof fire at a home on Rosedale Road in Wynnewood, something went wrong; he became separated from other firefighters, and died later that night at Lankenau Hospital.

Houston police officer critical after shooting over parking dispute

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer is critical after getting shot Monday by a suspect in Kingwood during a disturbance call over a parking dispute, authorities said. The shooting took place in the 200 block of Northpines Drive around 11 a.m. According to police, the officer is in “stable, but critical condition.” Houston Police Department said the officer was called to the scene due to a fight between a man and a woman over a parking space. The woman claimed the man spat in her face, so officers went to his apartment to speak to him, Click2Houston reported.
