City man indicted on possessing child porn | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN John F. Kukura, 37, who is incarcerated at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, has been indicted on 80 counts of possessing child pornography. His charges accuse him of possessing obscene material that has a minor as one of the participants. The offenses are alleged to have occured on or about Oct. 20, 2020. The charges are each a fourth-degree felony, each punishable by up to 18 months in prison. Kukura was arrested in October as part of an online sex sting carried out by Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene, the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force and a multitude of other local and state agencies.

YOUNGSTOWN Brandon Crump Jr., 18, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to aggravated murder and 16 other charges in the murder of Rowan Sweeney, 4, and the shootings of four adults. The crimes occurred Sept. 21, 2020, at a home on Perry Street in Struthers. Crump was arraigned by video from the Mahoning County jail before Magistrate Dominic DeLaurentis of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, who ordered that Crump remain in the jail without eligibility to make bond. Crump, whose case came through Mahoning County Juvenile Court, is one of two men indicted March 25 on crimes that could result in the death penalty if convicted.

YOUNGSTOWN The aggravated vehicular homicide trial of Michael G. Malvasi II, which has been scheduled and then postponed four times since COVID-19 began, looks possible for Monday on the fifth try. It will be heard by Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, who has requested additional jurors be called to the courthouse in an effort to overcome COVID-19 concerns. A Nov. 18, 2017, crash killed passenger Ryan Lanzo, 23, of Boardman, resulting in Malvasi’s charges. The charges were almost three years old when the trial was reset last October. Mahoning County Assistant Prosecutor Mike Yacovone expressed disappointment when that postponement took place.
