Amherst’s John Ingram named Belchertown’s next fire chief Belchertown Town Hall GAZETTE FILE PHOTO By SCOTT MERZBACH BELCHERTOWN Leverett’s fire chief for more than six years could soon take the reins of the Belchertown Fire Department. John Ingram, an Amherst fire captain who has served as Leverett’s chief since January 2015, was offered the job by the Select Board, which voted 5-0 last week to do so. Ingram’s hiring is contingent on successful contract negotiations for a position that was advertised with a salary range of $93,031 to $118,759. Ingram said Wednesday that he would comment on the appointment once he has reached a deal with the town.

An explosion at a home in Amherst, New Hampshire, Friday sent a contractor to the hospital with burn injuries, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal s Office. The home at 13 Clark Ave. was under construction. When firefighters responded just before 9:30 a.m., they found smoke and fire coming from the house, according to the State Fire Marshal s Office. The fire went to a third alarm before being declared under control.   There were contractors at the house doing work at the time of the explosion. One of the contractors sustained burned injuries to his arms and is being treated at a Boston area hospital where he is listed as stable condition, according to the State Fire Marshal s Office.

There were contractors working at the house at the time of the explosion, the investigators said. The injured contractor was being treated at a Boston area hospital, where he is listed as being in stable condition.

Amherst Fire Capt. John Ingram finalist for Belchertown chief job Updated Apr 28, 2021; BELCHERTOWN Amherst Fire Department Capt. John Ingram is the finalist for the chief’s job here. Ingram was hired as the part-time fire chief in Leverett in 2015, but has remained with the Amherst department. The Select Board has scheduled a public meeting on Thursday night to interview Ingram. A graduate of Amherst Regional High School, Ingram joined the Amherst department in 1993 and was promoted to captain in 2008. He received a master of arts in Fire Science and Administration from Anna Maria College in 2003. He also completed training from the Mass Firefighting Academy as a public fire and life safety educator.
