AMHERST, Va. (AP) - The call reporting a stolen vehicle came in to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 8 - and whoever took the truck also stole birthday presents for a girl turning 2 the next day.
Deputy S. W. Martin, a seven-year employee with the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, jumped on the case.
Whitney Edwards, an Amherst resident and mom of three, had just bought a scooter and ball pit for her daughter Alyza Tyree’s second birthday.

Whitney Edwards, an Amherst resident and mom of three, had just bought a scooter and ball pit for her daughter Alyza Tyreeâs second birthday.
After leaving the store with the gifts, Edwards realized she forgot to buy wrapping paper, so she stopped at another store on the way home. Parking along the side of the building in a crowded parking lot, Edwards left her keys in the truck for a few minutes to make her purchase. When she came back outside with her daughter and the wrapping paper, her vehicle was gone.

Four residents from Augusta and Nelson counties face a multitude of illegal gun and drug charges following multi-agency criminal investigations. The joint investigative operation was conducted by the Skyline Drug and Gang Task Force and the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force, with assistance from the Piedmont Regional Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force and the Central Virginia Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force.
Task force investigators executed search warrants Jan. 12, 2021 and Jan. 13, 2021 at residences in Lyndhurst, Arrington and Lovingston. As a result of the search warrants, task force members seized 15 firearms, approximately 3.25 lbs. of methamphetamine (approximate street value of $147,000), approximately 1 pound of marijuana (approximate street value of $4,000), marijuana edibles and illegal prescription drugs.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. – Authorities in Amherst County need your help finding a man they say shot outside of a vehicle in Madison Heights Saturday afternoon.
Warrants have been obtained for Zachary Logan Brown for reckless handling of firearm, shooting from a vehicle and driving on a revoked license, according to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened around 2:45 p.m. Saturday on Main Street following a report of shots being fired from a vehicle.
As positive cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Amherst County, officials announced temporary closures of two local courts because of concerns related to the virus. A separate announcement from
