Cable guys digging graves for roads, say residents

Residents of
Kasavanahalli, KPC Layout, Tulasi Layout in the
Mahadevapura zone are worried about the health of the recently asphalted roads. And rightly so, because no road in
Bengaluru is safe from the threat of being all dug up again. With the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (
BBMP) not interested in their plight, the residents even tried keeping a vigil on the roads, to prevent them from being destroyed and damaged.

The construction of Metro work along the
Whitefield corridor, which initially suffered delays due to land acquisition and axing of trees, is getting disrupted for a different reason this time. The construction company is facing a problem of
thieves stealing cables and battery worth lakhs of rupees. Thefts have occurred at least twice in the last one week. The company says even the police appear to be doing little to nab the gang.

Mahadevapura Zone; all of
Break free Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (
BBMP) has started to free the city streets from the choke hold of cable wires. As a first step, a drive to remove cables was taken up in
Mahadevapura zone where unauthorised cables were removed from 48 km in Horamavu,
KR Puram,
RL Parameshwaraiah, Chief
Engineer, Mahadevapura Zone, said that they have begun removing such cables and will also file cases against the companies if they continue to lay unauthorised cables around trees or poles. BBMP officials estimate that around there are overhead cables stretching to up to 2,100 km are in Bengaluru.

A man reversing his
mini lorry was attacked by two drunk men, who were allegedly nudged while walking behind the
vehicle. The man claimed that they were walking on the road, despite the footpath being empty.
Kumar, 35, a resident of B
Narayanapura and a mini lorry driver, has filed a complaint with the
Mahadevapura police against two unknown men.
Kumar said that the incident took place on January 31, in Krishnareddy Layout. Kumar said, “I had some work and after finishing it, I was removing the vehicle I had parked on the roadside, at around 7 pm. As I started to reverse, I noticed two men walking on the road. I assumed that after I start the engine, they would go to the footpath as there was so much space. As I went back a little, they came running towards my door and pulled me out.
