Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day 2021 by visiting these suburban Portland bookstores
Updated 5:00 AM;
Independent Bookstore Day looks a little different this year – again.
The American Booksellers Association’s annual celebration of indie bookstores is typically held on the last Saturday in April. In early 2020, as the pandemic spread, Independent Bookstore Day was rescheduled to the last Saturday in August, in hopes that bookstores would be operating normally by then. We all know how that story ended.
For 2021, with a year of pandemic selling experience under everyone’s belts, Independent Bookstore Day is back to its usual April date. Participating stores plan unique celebrations that can include raffle baskets, prizes, discounts, special merchandise and more – but many of the celebrations will be virtual.

It s important for motorists to adjust driving habits as winter brings a set of environmental hazards that aren’t present during the summer. Submitted photo
To kick off the new year, the Canada Safety Council would like to remind you that winter driving requires extra caution.
“Winter driving can be challenging at any time but more so when snow and slush interfere with solid contact with the road and the clear visibility we enjoy in the non-winter season,” said Gareth Jones, President and CEO of the Canada Safety Council.
“As we move into the season of snow and ice it’s always good to take a minute to remind ourselves of what it takes to drive in winter conditions.”
