SIOUX FALLS, S.D. As a large American flag whipped in the breeze from a nearby hilltop, state and federal officials and veterans opened the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, located just northeast of Sioux Falls, with a Memorial Day ceremony, Monday, April 31.

STURGIS, S.D. Black Hills National Cemetery held their annual Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony Monday.
For the second year in a row, the event was held without public attendance due to the pandemic.
After brief remarks, a wreath was placed honoring the fallen. The Sturgis Color Guard provided a rifle volley salute followed by taps.
Cemetery Director Terry Corkins hopes to return to normal ceremonies next year.
