Wood retires after 40 years with Mountain Home Public Schools

Teacher, coach, principal and athletic director, Janet Wood wore each of those hats during her 40 years in the Mountain Home Public School District. After a total of 42 years in education, the past four spent as principal at Mountain Home Kindergarten, Wood says the time is right for her to step away from education to spend time traveling with her husband, Lou, and enjoying the grand kids. Wood grew up in Melbourne, winning Class B and overall state basketball titles in 1973, played four years of college basketball at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, and earned a Master’s degree in physical education in 1979.

Mask protocols continue at Baxter Regional as per CDC recommendations

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has loosened guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals, it is maintaining masking recommendations for certain facilities, including all healthcare settings. Due to those guidelines, all Baxter Regional Medical Center (BRMC) facilities will continue to adhere to mask requirements, according to a statement from BRMC. The CDC’s latest recommendations for masks are: fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, indoors or outdoors. However, CDC continues to recommend masks be worn where required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local businesses and workplaces; such places include healthcare settings, planes or public transit, correctional facilities or homeless shelters.

Mountain Home School District to hold food distribution event Friday

MHPS makes assistance available for students, families due to winter weather

The Mountain Home Public School District has announced several opportunities to meet the needs of students and their families due to threat of winter weather.On Friday, parents can pick up several meals for students from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pinkston Middle School at the dropoff/pickup area. Parents must register for the meals before 8 a.m. Friday, so the Food Service Department will know how many meals to prepare.Click here to register. If you are unable to register digitally, call 870-425-1225 before 4 p.m. Thursday. You must be registered in order to pick up meals. To allow students to continue their work in the virtual classroom due to any weather-related school closings, the district will allow parents to pick up a replacement Chromebook or charger Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mountain Home High School.
