Sam Choi, a junior on the University of New Mexico men’s golf team, has been named NCAA Division I PING All-American Honorable Mention after another strong season that included tying for first place at the Mountain West Championship while leading the Lobos to the Mountain West title.
Choi, who earned his second GCAA PING Division I All-Region honor in June, is ranked No. 29 in the nation as an individual by GolfStat with an adjusted scoring average of 71.36 strokes per round.
Choi, an All-Mountain West Team honoree, led the Lobos in five of their eight events, while posting three top-five finishes.

Cowgirls featured on day two of NCAA West prelims

Day two of the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field Championships NCAA West Preliminaries hosted by Texas A&M University featured the two University of Wyoming Cowgirls who qualified for this week’s meet./ UW courtesy photo

Sadie McMullen were up after the first day of competition featured three Cowboys. Carbee was up in the first flight of the Hammer Throw followed by McMullen in the Long Jump, however due to a measuring system malfunction the first flight of the women’s Hammer Throw will be re-thrown on Friday at 11AM (CDT).

Spring football is behind us, and summer workouts will be starting before we know it. Last week, we started our quarterback previews with the Mountain Division. This week, we finish up with the schools in the West Division.
The Good:
San Jose State
Nick Starkel managed to do something I never thought possible. He brought a Mountain West Championship to San Jose. Starkel will be a trendy pick for offensive player of the year, but the loss of Tre Walker and Billy Gaither will be felt. It will be interesting to see if he can replicate his success with the turnover at wide receiver.
