Honduran H Upmann 1844 Classic Slated for June | Cigar Aficionado

Share Photo/Altadis U.S.A. Cigar rollers at the Flor de Copan factory in Honduras are busy making a new H. Upmann brand and when it ships in June, all sizes will retail for $8 or less. The line is called H. Upmann 1844 Classic, and it’s an all-Honduran blend save for the light, Connecticut-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. According to distributor Altadis U.S.A., the H. Upmann 1844 Classic is intended to be medium bodied. This is achieved through the blend of Honduran broadleaf binder and Cuban-seed tobaccos grown in the Santa Rosa de Copan region of Honduras. The new line will be available in four sizes: Corona, measuring 5 inches by 44 ring gauge; Robusto, at 5 by 52; Toro, at 6 by 54 and a 7-by-50 Churchill. The cigars will come in boxes of 25, and suggested retail prices will range from $7.10 to $8 per cigar.

Saint Luis Rey Carenas Sets Sail in April | Cigar Aficionado

Share Photos/Altadis U.S.A. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen anything new from the Honduran Saint Luis Rey brand, but Altadis U.S.A. has decided to give it some attention. Next month, the company is releasing the Saint Luis Rey Carenas, a four-size line named after the Puerto de Carenas, now known as the Port of Havana. “The historic Puerto de Carenas…was a place to seek repairs,” the company said, referring to 16th century mariners sailing to the West Indies. “But it also served as a departure port for many important exports, including the tobacco leaves destined for the world’s first tobacco factory in Seville, Spain.”
