Houston is Having a Fine Dining Moment

Even (and especially) during a pandemic, people are craving big-money foodie experiences. By Timothy Malcolm 2/24/2021 at 11:25am The dimly-lit dining room of Turner s. When the first guests were welcomed into the highly anticipated Goodnight Hospitality tasting-menu restaurant March, albeit as part of a holiday-season, lounge-style concept that acted as a preview, June Rodil felt an even more pronounced bounce in her step. Darting from the more casual Rosie Cannonball to the freewheeling Chalet and up to the slightly more serious March felt like the ultimate thrill for someone who lives and breathes hospitality. It felt awesome, says Rodil, a master sommelier and partner at Goodnight Hospitality. The most rewarding aspect was seeing the movement between the restaurants. People would start with a drink at March and say, Actually, I want dinner, I want a pizza downstairs [at Rosie Cannonball]. And then have a really grateful handoff between the two concepts.

Photo by Heirloom Interactive One of Houston s favorite food events has reconfigured for 2021. Rather than a large gathering with hundreds of people, The Truffle Masters will spotlight individual dishes at participating restaurants with diners trying them on their own schedule, organizer DR Delicacy announced. Instead of a one-night affair, this year s Truffle Masters will take place from Thursday, February 11 until Sunday, February 28. Expanding to a longer format allows the event to go statewide, and gives truffle lovers more time to sample each restaurant s creations. In addition to participants from across the Houston area, Truffle Masters will also include establishments in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio.

Plus, a beloved Montrose Mediterranean staple is adding a second location. By Timothy Malcolm 2/8/2021 at 10:54am See, at Truffle Masters they put truffles on everything. Truffle Masters is one of the most anticipated events on the Houston food calendar. It s when foodies and media folks alike dress up a little and eat a lot of decadent cuisine with a dash (or sometimes dousing) of truffles, for good measure. Because we re still in a pandemic, Truffle Masters in 2021 will look a little different. This year s event will be held much like Houston Restaurant Weeks. Participating restaurants throughout Houston (and also Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas) will be featuring a special Truffle Masters menu item February 11–28, with a portion of sales going to the Texas Food & Wine Alliance to help hospitality workers impacted by Covid-19.
