Several live, on-location musical events will feature women artists this Mother’s Day weekend:
♦ South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange is bringing its stage back to life on Friday, May 7, with a concert by singer-songwriter and New Jersey native Dana Fuchs. The show will be limited to 100 audience members in the theater, but also will be streamed live online.
♦ Broadway veteran Kelli Rabke will premiere her new cabaret show, “Tiny Giants Petite Powerhouses from Garland to Gaga,” at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown with performances 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8. As indicated by its title, the show will pay tribute to “small-in-stature” women vocalists, including Edith Piaf, Bette Midler, Stevie Nicks, the singers whose names are incorporated in the show’s title, and others. 750,000 men died in the American Civil War but the tragedy was magnified by disrespectful burial practices where large numbers of bodies were deposited, unidentified, into trenches. Enemy soldiers were frequently not buried at all. This program covers these issues and reports how after the war, Federal and state governments, including large numbers of women, sought to rectify the matter by re-burying them in special cemeteries. This program also covers the issue of statues and monuments. Presented by Civil War expert Martin Mosho, who has studied the Civil War for over 50 years and toured many of the most famous battlefields. He is a member of a prominent Civil War society and a retired instructor of Mercer County Community College.

♦ The Summit-based New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble will mount its 52nd anniversary performance of “¡Ballie di Primavera! The Dances of Spring” online 7 p.m. Sunday, May 2.
The program will feature NJDTE pre-professional dancers ages 10-18 and include works by; Christopher Bloom of Ballet Hispánico, excerpts of “Don Quixote” and “Paquita” staged by the ensemble’s rehearsal director Alexandra Gonzalez, “Parallel” staged by artistic director Nancy Turano, and Paul Taylor’s “Cloven Kingdom”, staged by 20-year Paul Taylor veteran Michelle Fleet.

Real Central NJ’s Christian Coridon named to Haiti’s Futsal World Cup roster

For Hightstown native Christian Coridon, this two-week period just got much busier, to his excitement.
RCNJ attacker Coridon has been named to the 16-player Haitian Futsal World Cup qualifying roster. Coridon will join his teammates for the May 3-9 CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football) Futsal Championship tournament to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where 13 nations will compete to attend the Futsal World Cup in Lithuania this coming September.
“We’re thrilled Christian will have a chance to showcase his skills on an international stage,” RCNJ men’s Head Coach Patrick Snyder said of the call-up. “Christian will be one of our on-field leaders this season, and his call-up highlights what great talent there is in Central Jersey.”
