Basingstoke hospital gets a new supportive care centre

The people behind the work have called it ‘a haven of calm and colour’. The interior and exterior garden areas of the Ark Cancer Centre Charity-funded supportive care centre have been transformed into beautifully landscaped areas. A team of professionals and volunteers led by Tania Brookes, who runs Tania Brookes Garden Design, have created the landscaped gardens at the supportive care centre, which is part of the Radiotherapy Unit in Basingstoke. The supportive care centre has been funded by Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is raising £5million to help Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) colleagues deliver supportive care and complementary therapies in a cancer treatment centre that will be part of the new hospital to be built in the Basingstoke area in the second half of this decade. Hook company raises £1000 for Ark Cancer Charity with walking challenge

A HOOK-BASED company has raised £1,000 for Ark Cancer Charity. The Whiteoaks International Step Challenge saw 43 staff, family and even pets getting involved to reach the target in just 28 days completing 9,377,160 steps and a distance of nearly 5,000 miles. Merv Rees, Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee and renowned liver cancer surgeon, said: “Thank you to everyone at Whiteoaks for taking on this formidable Step Challenge. Team Whiteoaks are great champions of Ark, and this is another significant show of support. Well done to everyone who took part.” Tara Williams, Whiteoaks HR manager, added: “One of our continuing aims has been employee wellness, keeping staff healthy, happy and engaged, which is especially important now. We thought that a great way to boost our wellbeing would be to keep physically active, set ourselves a target, and of course, have a fundraising goal.

The 2021 list of New Year s Honours has been released and it features 11 people who have contributed to the district. Whether it is in the field of health, media or community service, they have all played their part – especially in what has been a difficult year. They are: Vivien Loveday, 75, of Bishop’s Waltham, is awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community. For the past 40 years she has run the Bishops Waltham Gateway Club, which helps people with learning disabilities take part in leisure, social and creative activities.
