San Francisco Giants pitching prospect Gregory Santos made his MLB debut in April but won t be pitching for the club through the summer.
Per Maria Guardado of the league s website, Santos has been suspended 80 games after he tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Stanozolol. The ban begins immediately (Tuesday) and is without pay.
According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Santos will forfeit roughly half his salary for the campaign. The 21-year-old tallied a 1-1 record with a 5.17 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, and he surrendered six runs and three home runs in his three MLB relief opportunities this spring before he was sent down.
