On Saturday April 24, 2021, the Tioga County Sheriffâs Office partnered with the Trinity Casa House and participated in the semi-annual National Drug Take Back Event sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration.Â
The event, which was held at 72 North Avenue in the Village of Owego, and at 41 N. Main Street in the Village of Spencer, was a success.Â
The total amount of unused and unwanted medications collected in a four-hour period was approximately 200 pounds.Â
On Tuesday April 27, 2021, the Tioga County Sheriffâs Office delivered approximately 660 pounds of unused and unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications to an incinerator facility in Syracuse for destruction.Â

Kansas disposed of over 9-tons of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription meds during National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 24th.
According to a report from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Kansas law enforcement officers across the state collected over 18,880 pounds of medicines at 124 locations. This was the largest amount of medications collected in Kansas since the event began in 2010.
“Safe storage and proper disposal are the keys to preventing the accidental or intentional misuse of prescription medications,” Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a Tuesday press release. “Kansans continue to recognize the importance of safely disposing of their unused medicines during these Drug Take-Back events.”

MADISON, Wis. â Wisconsinâs Drug Take Back Day held in late April led to the second largest collection in the country this year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Statewide, more than 290 law enforcement agencies participated in efforts to collect unused and unwanted drugs from Wisconsinites. In total, 60,632 pounds of drugs were collected.
âWisconsin is once again one of the top states in the country for Drug Take Back,â Attorney General Josh Kaul said. âThank you to the thousands of Wisconsinites who have helped fight substance-use disorder by ensuring that more than 60,000 pounds of unused and unwanted medications are being safely disposed of and wonât be diverted.â
