HCSC EXECS SEE BIG RAISES: Top brass at Blue Cross of Illinois parent company got big raises last year, as health insurers emerged largely unscathed from the economic fallout of a pandemic that hammered other segments of the health care industry.
Maurice Smith, who took the helm last June, got a 63 percent boost to $5.9 million, while longtime board Chairman Milton Carroll s pay jumped 81 percent to $8.9 million. Carroll, an energy industry executive who has served as HCSC s board chairman since 2002, collected far more than his counterparts at comparable publicly traded health insurers last year. (TNS) Eau Claire County, Wis., has selected 50 participants who will receive a year of free Internet as part of a pilot project.
The pilot focuses on unserved businesses and households in rural parts of southeastern Eau Claire County. It is operated by SpaceX Starlink and costs $85,000 total. As part of paying for the project, the local community needed to raise $30,000 and has successfully done so, according to Supervisor Don Mowry, chair of the county Broadband Committee, which met Thursday.

Illinois on Tuesday temporarily halted shots of Johnson & Johnson s popular one-dose vaccine for COVID-19 on the advice of federal health authorities who plan to meet Wednesday and review six U.S. cases of a rare and severe-type blood clot among the 6.8 million J&J vaccine recipients.
A statement from the Illinois Department of Public Health said the department instructed all providers of COVID-19 vaccines in the state to immediately discontinue use of the J&J vaccine at this time out of an abundance of caution.

HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Wound Healing Center has once again been named a recipient of the
Center of Distinction award by Healogics®, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The Wound Healing Center has won this award every year since it opened in 2010.
The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction rates higher than 92% and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 92% within 28 median days to heal. There were 555 Centers eligible for the Center of Distinction award and 278 achieved the honor. Other Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) hospitals receiving this same honor include HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon and HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
