Adult inpatients at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and its sister hospitals in Decatur and Litchfield will be allowed one support person, beginning Thursday, as part of an easing of visitor restrictions related to a decline in local levels of COVID-19.
Visitors still will be required to wear masks at all times while at St. John’s and at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur and HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Visitors to adult inpatients previously weren’t allowed except in special circumstances involving areas that serve women and infants and in the pediatric intensive-care unit.

Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)-Â Today, January 7, HSHS St. Anthonyâs Memorial Hospital began administering the second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The second dose of this vaccine is given 21 days after the first dose.
The first hospital colleague to receive the second vaccine dose was Becky Kistner, RN, who works on the hospitalâs medical/surgical care floor. Kistner was also the first to receive the first dose on December 17. SPRINGFIELD HSHS St. John’s Hospital began administering second doses of the Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine today. The second dose of this vaccine is given 21 days after the first dose. Sally Tamizuddin, RN, a St. John’s critical care nurse, was the first colleague to receive the vaccine on December 16 and was among the first to receive the second dose of the vaccine today.
“These second doses are just as important as the first doses we gave a few weeks ago. This second dose is making sure the vaccination provides its full protection for our colleagues who are on the frontlines of this pandemic,” said Dr. Gurpreet Mander, HSHS Illinois Chief Physician Executive. “When the vaccines are offered to the community, we urge people to make sure they get both doses.”

LITCHFIELD On Wednesday, HSHS St. Francis Hospital administered the first COVID-19 vaccine doses to hospital colleagues who are serving on the front lines of this pandemic. The first colleagues included:

All of the vaccines were administered smoothly and safely.
The doses, which arrived this morning, were administered to colleagues providing patient care, all of who voluntarily consented to receive the vaccine. At this time, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is not requiring its colleagues to receive the vaccination, although they are recommending
