Why is March 10th Known as Mario Day? Significance Explained
Here s why March 10th is Mario Day.
Mario is one of the most, if not the most, recognisable character in video games. He’s transcended the medium for almost 40 years now, starring in his own games for 35 years of that, and deserves all the plaudits he can get.
Nintendo’s mascot first appeared as Jumpman, back in arcades in 1981. His role, take down the evil Donkey Kong and rescue Lady (or Pauline) from his grasp.
Since then, the red-hatted, moustachioed plumber has gone on to become Nintendo’s mascot and has starred in literally 100’s of different games.
If Today is Mario Day, When is National Luigi Day?
The green man deserves his own day!
Today, Nintendo fans and gamers all over the world to unite in celebration of video game’s most recognisable plumber – Mario. Mar10 is celebrated as Mario Day for no other reason than the way the date looks.
While the red-hatted, moustachioed Jumpman deserves his plaudits for all he’s done for the video game medium, his taller green brother deserves some love too.
Luigi first appeared back in 1983, long before most other games characters and for that reason alone, he deserves to be celebrated.

Mario Day is here and that means Nintendo Switch products are on sale
It s Mario Day because MAR10 looks just like Mario s name! according to Nintendo.

The only downside of Mario Day is that I can’t really talk about it without violating the rules of the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook, which is something I really care about because I am an insufferable snob.
For those lacking an intimate understanding of the particular rules that the AP lives by, the issue is that this whole holiday is based on the visual pun that today’s date looks like the name of the Nintendo mascot “Mario,” (named after Nintendo’s 1980s landlord, incidentally) but according to this style guide, I’m supposed to write that date as “March 10.” The only way to get around it is to quote the Nintendo website, which helpfully explains:
