A man was airlifted to a Calgary hospital after surviving a long fall during an ice climbing accident in the Rockies Friday.
According to Rocky Mountain House RCMP, the 28-year-old man fell about 12 metres while ice climbing at the south end of Abraham Lake, approximately 210 kilometres west of Red Deer.

RCMP responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. after a member of the climbing party signalled for help using an SOS beacon, a radio transmitter meant for use by people in distress in remote areas. Local EMS, search and rescue, STARS air ambulance and Ahlstrom Helicopters also assisted in the rescue.
