2-alarm fire torches Oakland apartment building under construction near Lake Merritt

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at an Oakland apartment building Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported at 7:46 a.m. at a three-story building on Second Avenue and International Boulevard near Lake Merritt, said Oakland Fire spokesman Michael Hunt. The building was under construction, he said.
There were no injuries reported. Two construction workers who had been living in the building were displaced, Hunt said. Firefighters evacuated the residents of a nearby building.
Video footage posted to Twitter by Oakland Fire appeared to show the building’s second story engulfed in flames.

Fire crews battled a blaze in Oakland that burned three commercial trailers and a large shed Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The Oakland Fire Department responded to what appeared to be an encampment between 98th and 105th avenues in East Oakland at about 11 a.m. The fire started at the encampment along the railroad tracks, then extended to a shed and three commercial trailers, Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said.
