Stone Brewing, looking to increase its prowess as a craft beer distributor in Southern California, has leased a 110,000-square-foot cold storage facility in San Marcos as a hub for delivering kegs, cans and bottles to the region’s restaurants, bars, liquor stores and grocers. The new lease is a bit of a homecoming for Stone, which founded its original brewery in San Marcos 25 years ago this week. Shortly thereafter, the company launched a self-distribution arm Stone Distributing Co. when established beverage wholesalers, heavily reliant on mainstream brands, declined to carry Stone’s beers. “Stone Distributing has proven to be a powerhouse for the SoCal craft market,” said Maria Stipp, who took over as Stone’s chief executive in September. “We’re doubling down our focus on this part of the business, which has given so much to Stone and the craft beer community.”
