The 2021 Maria Moors Cabot Award Winners

Jul 25, 2021 “With threats against the press on the rise in the Americas, including physical attacks and cyber-harassment targeting women reporters, I welcome the Cabot Jury’s selection of four outstanding female journalists to receive this year’s Cabot Prizes,” said Columbia President Lee C. Bollinger. “On behalf of the entire University, I would like to offer my congratulations and my thanks to the honorees for their talent and their courage.” “From fearlessly investigating government corruption and drug cartels to documenting the underrepresented and holding leaders accountable, all of our 2021 honorees further our understanding among the Americas through news and images,” said Cabot Board Chair Rosental  Alves. “These four journalists provide new models of excellence in the estimable tradition of the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes.”

NBCUniversal creates $1M scholarship fund for underrepresented students at Columbia Journalism School

February 16, 2021 – The NBCUniversal News Group has launched a $1,000,000 multiyear scholarship fund at Columbia Journalism School to support students from underrepresented populations who seek careers in journalism. This generous gift is part of a broader school campaign to expand the professional pipeline for students who can help our industry better reflect the communities it serves,  said Steve Coll, Dean of Columbia Journalism School and Henry Luce Professor of Journalism. The school’s scholarship campaign is called Access Matters, raising funds from alumni and friends of the school to educate the next generation of journalists. It is focused on making a Columbia education available to all students, regardless of their circumstances, to achieve their potential.
