The Wellfleet Select Board voted this week to reschedule both the town meeting and the upcoming town election.
The town meeting will now be held June 26 with possible rain dates of June 27, 28 and 29. The town election has been postponed to June 30.
The town meeting was originally set for June 5, but the board said that the budget for Fiscal Year 2022, as well as the town meeting warrant, still need to be finalized.
The rescheduling also affords the Select Board more time to prepare for the meeting and the election after parting ways with Town Administrator Maria Broadbent, whose last day is Friday. On Tuesday, the Select Board appointed Wellfleet fire Chief Richard Pauley as acting town administrator.
WELLFLEET – The Select Board didn t have to search far Tuesday to find an acting town administrator.
The board voted to appoint Wellfleet Fire Chief Richard Pauley to the interim role, this after it was announced Saturday that the town and Town Administrator Maria Broadbent had mutually agreed to part ways
Pauley’s appointment could last up to 90 days, or until another interim administrator is hired by the Select Board.
Select Board Chairman Michael DeVasto said Pauley’s long history with the town makes him a natural fit for the acting role.
“The chief has been hands-on and communicative, and part of the COVID-19 emergency response team, and he’s had good communication with all the department heads throughout the pandemic,” DeVasto said.
