Stimulitis new syndrome keeping workers home By PAULETTE LeBLANC - | Apr 21, 2021 Most business owners are accustomed to a certain number of employees calling in sick, or quitting, as well as applicants looking for work, but according to many local business owners, this year is nothing like years’ past in that respect. Luretta Williams-Sims, owner of Capt’n Con’s Fish House, says she can’t find anybody who wants to work and refuses to exhaust faithful employees who do show up. “I’ve had very few people even apply to do anything,” said Sims, who explained having an employee who worked for a short time and gave one week notice, never to return, and then filed for unemployment. Sims said she responded to the unemployment office explaining that this person did, in fact, have a job and was needed.

PAULETTE LEBLANC As of Monday, March 1, the much-awaited opening of the new artisan food market at The Center has finally happened. Owner Maria Albano said, “I’m so happy to finally be opened. We’ve been waiting for two months.” Albano commented that their first day was very busy, as islanders came in to check out the new market and eatery in the old Subway building. Nick B’s Artisan Food Market is at 10502 Stringfellow Road. Hours at the market are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily.

PAULETTE LeBLANC Maria Albano is getting ready to wow Pine Islanders with her food the same way she did for almost 40 years in the mountains of West Virginia. Her specialty Chimi Churi Sauce, which will be for sale inside the shop, to be called Nick-B’s Artisan Food Market, as well as various other market items, has been a favorite in Gulf Coast farmer’s markets. In addition to fresh food served within the shop, there will be a market for shopping fresh baked bread, pasta, flank steak, salads, produce, fresh eggs, pastry, soup and sandwiches made to order, a coffee and juice bar, as well as event catering and food delivery.
