Foster Coral Developments in Dubuque When you think of the tri-state area in late winter, images of coral reefs aren t likely to be the first things that come to mind.  Yet, 1600 miles upstream from the Gulf of Mexico, as humans battle a viral disease, reefs are quietly growing in Dubuque at The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium (NMRMA). Refugee Corals arrived nearly two years ago when NMRMA aquarists became the first caretakers outside the state of Florida to house and protect corals as part of the Associations of Zoos and Aquairums (AZA) Florida Reef Tract Rescue Project (FRTRP).  Today at the aquarium, the corals seem to be thriving, reproducing, and housing some surprise hitchhikers.
