FLA in firing line over $8 4m in termination benefits to 5 employees

Loop News Shane Dalling The Shane Dalling-led Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) found itself in the firing line when it appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday. Specifically, the FLA has been found to be in breach of the Ministry of Finance’s Circular No. 15 guidelines as it relates to termination benefits for employees, by the Pamela Monroe-Ellis-led Auditor General’s Department. The guidelines are dated May 8, 2012, and speak to fixed-term contracts. The PAC was told that the FLA, which issues firearm permits, paid five former employees approximately $8.4 million in termination benefits in 2017, which was found to be in excess of the amounts that were due under their employment contracts.
